On February 12, Anne Bourbonnais, Full professor at the Faculty of Nursing at the Université de Montréal, and Amélie Gagnon, advisor on older people healthcare trajectory at the Direction générale Santé et bien-être des aînés at Santé Québec, gave a presentation on vocal behaviours and screams in older people. They have been collaborating since last year, when they recorded a podcast addressing concerns often raised in various settings by family care partners and healthcare providers: Why do older people with cognitive impairment often scream, and what can be done to avoid disturbing others? During the conference, they presented the Decibels intervention developed by Dr. Bourbonnais in more detail, along with potential solutions to reduce the disruptiveness of screams.
